The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has denounced Rwanda’s renewed military offensive in Uvira, describing it as a flagrant violation of the Washington Peace Accord signed under the mediation of U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to the communiqué, Rwandan Defense Forces (RDF) used kamikaze drones and heavy artillery, causing civilian deaths, injuries, and mass displacement of over 200,000 people. Infrastructure, schools, and homes have been destroyed, worsening the humanitarian crisis in South Kivu.
The government warned that these attacks risk triggering a regional destabilization across the Great Lakes area, noting that Rwandan artillery fire has reached Burundian territory.
